Artist's Comments

Please note that this is work in progress. I don't really like the outcome, but I want to display it for the sake of freeback.

This image was inspired by Hellk4t's iRaqdesktop. In fact, it uses directly part of the image (the silouette of the man/boy).

I though that the idea was very good, but that it was not very well accomplished -- so I set onwards to do my own. In the process, I made several different pieces with the same theme, which I will submit in the near future (or not, depends on what Real Life throws to me).

Also in the near future, I will upload the SVG sources, copylefted under the usual Creative Commons Attribution - Sharealike, if Hellk4t does not oppose.

Dimensions, colours and lettering were stolen and eroded from Apple's own iPod site (I shall not provide a link). The font used for text other than "iRaq" is Nimbus Sans L. The Kalashnikov was found via Google (no, no link again). All work (vectorization, etc.) was done with Inkscape, Free Software. [link]

This is very good. It's humourous in its approach but the issue is definitely not funny. Still though the way it grabs the eye and satirises the situation definitely makes the viewer think. Nice job.

Thanks.

I had some concern that people might not understand that even though a situation may work well for a fun play, it does not mean that we take it less serious than it is.

A hundred thousand freedoms stolen by the whim of a few is too much seriousness to overcome it through a simple image.

I think it's clean and simple. Reminds me of the style Glassjaw band used on their site some time ago... and designs of The Filth (Grant Morrison writer) covers:

Well it's a simple style quite in fashion nowadays...

IMHO there's nothing more to complete this work. But if you think it needs further design... you're the artist.

Well, it is the approximate looks that Apple is using in their iPod advertisement. It has been widely copied and mimicked (and parodied) in a lot of places, and I am not the first one to do it, by any means. (Nor is apple -- silouettes on bright backgrounds were extensively used, for example, in the pop-art, and before).

But thanks for the compliments.

I'm pretty sure Glassjaw and Filth style was previous to that from iPods... But you know... it's impossible to tell who's plagiarizing who... Well, despite of Windows plagiarizing Macs, of course... but that's history! ;-D

And yeah, I agree with you... the beginning of this clean silouettes style is located so back as the 50s and 60s... You know art and design, as many arts, is cyclying one time and again and again... (I got a theory about that)
